AI Tools & Modern IDE Workflows
Practice a small edit, inspect its diff and verify behavior before accepting generated changes.
Before you start
- An editor, Git and a tiny repository you can change safely. AI-editor subscriptions are optional.
The reading and planning exercises need no paid course or API. Optional inference, training, IDE features and hosted services may require hardware, accounts or paid access. Use the local or manual alternative before spending money.

Practice with a concrete exercise
1. Choose a reviewable task
Read a tutorial about explaining code or generating tests. In a practice repository, pick one function and write its intended inputs, outputs and edge cases. Create a branch before changing it.
2. Constrain the requested edit
Write a request naming the file, behavior and boundaries. If you have an authorized editor assistant, ask it to explain its proposed diff; otherwise perform the edit manually while following the same review checklist.
3. Verify the diff
Inspect every changed line, run the relevant test and deliberately trigger one error path. Revert an unnecessary change with Git. Record which checks you performed rather than treating an assistant’s explanation as test evidence.
Check what you learned
- You can describe every changed line.
- The observed behavior matches the original acceptance criteria.
- No secret, dependency or unrelated file change slips into the diff.
Keep your artifact, observed checks and remaining limitations in a short README. Mark any exercise you only designed rather than executed.
